I Made It …
Sayyang Pattudu in Mandar, West
Sulawesi, is a celebration for children who have completed the recitation of
the Quran. The ritual is perfomed to express gratitude to God. The celebration
takes place once a year in the month of Rabiul Awwal of the Arabic calendar.
When the big day comes, children wear their traditional clothes. Then they ride
on decorated horses and parade trough the town. They sit on the horses with the
left leg beny behind and the right leg bent in front of the body. The parade is
accompanied by traditional music, At the end, everybody eats together.
